Our stewardship team is working to make sure people are aware of the good work God is doing at Grace. We are excited to share stories from our members about how your generosity has positively impacted individuals and communities. Our next story features James Mihevc, who has just completed his freshman year at Augustana College and is a member of Grace.

Roots and Wings

James joined Grace Lutheran Church a few years ago with his family. He is an active member of the congregation and serves as a leader for Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, plays piano, tuba, and bass guitar for church services, and has preached and presided over youth services. He has found support and encouragement from church members. “It's just really nice to know that they all appreciate what I'm doing and support me.”

The church has supported him outside of services as well. James, who attends Augustana College, finds comfort in knowing that he has a church home to return to during breaks.“Pastor Andy puts his sermons on Spotify every week and I always listen to them.” James joined the Augustana ministry leadership team because of his experience and faith foundation at Grace. “When I think about Grace Lutheran Church I always think about our vision statement that's printed on sheets in the pews - gathering, growing, and giving together in Grace.” He remembers this statement when volunteering for his ministry at Augustana, as well as in his everyday life.

James noted opportunities for younger people to participate at Grace, including volunteering at VBS, ushering during services, and attending services on a regular basis. “Younger members are going to be the next group of people that take the helm of this church and bring us into a new generation.” He would like to see Grace offer additional service and faith activities for people who are too old for Sunday school and confirmation but want to learn about scriptures, deepen their faith, and volunteer in outreach programs.  “I know that through giving and helping through the church, not only do I grow in my faith but I can help others grow in their faith too.”

Currently, Grace offers Sunday school, confirmation, and VBS as its youth ministries and hopes to expand its programs for young people in the future. Ministry specifically designed for high school youth and young adults at Grace is an area in which our church can continue to encourage, support and grow the next generation of Lutherans.
